REFLECTION
Sometimes our kids give us the best lessons in life. Recently I changed
my mind about this idea " The only difference between obstinacy and
tenacity is success”. To redefine " the difference between obstinacy and tenacity is the way to approach
success through learning"
This year, my son Juan Pi arrived several times exhausted and with a
headache from soccer training. The reason was his great effort in developing his
technique but with some fear of failure.
These situations were reflected during complicated games; but coach
Acuña saw in Juan Pi a great discipline and effort so he trusted him
I remember at the end of one game
my son told me “I don’t know what to do during the plays? My partners and coach
shout different things at me”. So I told
Juan Pi, “You must do what you believe is better, because your coach isn’t in
the field and the other players don’t have the ball”
Finally, the date of the national tournament came. Every player won the
position, and Juan Pi for his dedication got it too, but he was afraid.
During the tournament Juan Pi improved and overcame his fear because the
team played to win with common determination. He changed his mindset to reach a
mutual goal. During these games he didn’t worry about how to execute the plays.
He did the best option in his mind.
I know this because during a
dinner his coach said that Juan Pi had improved his ability. He played to win.
Juan Pi thanked me for the letter that I wrote about the lesson. He told
me that he cried because he understood the meaning of choosing the best option
in his mind.
This is one of the examples that you can find in this book. I was able
to re-evaluate the capacity to learn and be a better person with the approach
to do with an open mind.
I know things we know are different each moment. Coach Wooden would say “I do not care if you win,
I care about the best effort being made with the attitude of improving”
When I was reading, prejudice came to my mind; What is the reason to
learn something that I’m not good at? But the process to do the things with an
open mind gives us the opportunity to improve our weaknesses through our
strengths
Get into the situations with the intention of being an apprentice, with
the humility of knowing that the effort will mold you to reach the top.
Observe, Learn, Improve. Become better ….
